Gut bacteria, autism and gut brain communication.

Progurt Team - Wednesday, October 24, 2012

Progurt recently recommended viewing the ABC’s Four Corners documentary “The Autism Enigma” discussing how gut bacteria might affect Autism. The Program, aired on television in Australia and Canada, follows the work of an international group of scientists researching the human intestine and the clues their work might hold for treating and perhaps preventing this baffling disorder.

An average person has approximately10 times the amount of gut bacterial cells compared to other cells in the human body.

Among the proponents of the so-called “bacterial theory” of autism is Sydney Finegold, a medical researcher at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr Finegold has researched gastrointestinal microflora in late-onset autism.

Here we look at a post-Program follow up interview with Dr Finegold as well as recent background scientific publications regarding microbiota-gut-brain communication.

Probiotics and Clostridium difficile Infection.

Progurt Team - Monday, October 22, 2012

Probiotics may be effective for prevention and treatment of Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea (CDAD) by means of several mechanisms.

Gastrointestinal infections are killing more and more people in the United States and have become a particular threat to the elderly, according to new data reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported. Of those who died, 83 percent were over age 65.

Two thirds of the deaths were caused by a bacterium, Clostridium difficile, which people often contract in hospitals, particularly when they have been taking antibiotics. The bacteria have grown increasingly virulent and resistant to treatment in recent years.  More...

Gut bacteria could play a key role in the development of Type 2 Diabetes.

Progurt Team - Tuesday, October 16, 2012

New research now indicates that your gut bacteria can reveal whether you suffer from the Type 2 Diabetes.

The number of people suffering from Type 2 Diabetes worldwide has risen rapidly in recent years, and scientists estimate that just as many people could be suffering from the illness without realising it.

We have demonstrated that people with Type 2 Diabetes have a high level of pathogens in their intestines," says professor Jun Wang from the University of Copenhagen's Department of Biology and Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research.

The 1.5 kilograms of bacteria that we each carry in our intestines have an enormous impact on our health and well-being. The bacteria normally live in a sensitive equilibrium but if this equilibrium is disrupted our health could suffer.  More...

Not all Probiotics are created equal.

Progurt Team - Thursday, October 04, 2012

A respected Australian government approved Microbiology Test Authority has now confirmed that from a sample laboratory measurement - Progurt contains “more than” 1 Trillion CFU of probiotic bacteria per litre (or more than one thousand billion) - the highest CFU count available. (Colony counts were performed in triplicate.)

Progurt contains multiple-strains of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) & Bifido Bacteria of human origin, identical to those found in a healthy human gut.

Probiotic research shows with ever more clarity that the relationship between gut flora and human health is not just a random coexistence, but rather a mutually beneficial, synergistic relationship.

Leading health care practitioners recommend Progurt for improved digestive health, improved metabolism and strengthening the immune system.

Probiotics are vital for your health, but not all probiotics are created equal. Progurt continues to strive to be the most powerful probiotic available.

The Probiotic Institute conducts worldwide research into the benefits and synergistic relationship of Human Strain Probiotics and overall Gut Health.
