Probiotics, obesity and diabetes - Probiotics may reduce insulin resistance and fat accumulation.

Progurt Team - Wednesday, November 28, 2012

Mounting evidence indicates that gut microbiota composition affects obesity and diabetes.

Furthermore, provocative data suggest that manipulation of the microbiome using prebiotics, probiotics, and synbiotics may reduce insulin resistance and fat accumulation.

This is the conclusion of Dr Paul Marik (Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, East Virigina Medical School). His findings, edited by Dr Tsuguhito Ota (Kanazawa University, Frontier Science Organisation) are now published in Frontiers in Diabetes and online.  More...

Can probiotics improve concentration and your overall mental health.

Progurt Team - Thursday, November 22, 2012

Could a powerful probiotic with human strains, such as Progurt, influence our moods, altering levels of depression and alertness, as well as digestion?

Students and professionals have often taken highly addictive stimulant drugs to help them get through exams or perform better. Pharmaceutical companies are now testing compounds that may enable patients with dementia and other neurological diseases to have better memory.

But what if simply consuming a powerful probiotic in juice or water or a healthy bowl of probiotic yogurt for breakfast is just what is needed for better emotional well-being?  More...

Eat your way out of Anxiety and Depression – the sunny side of a powerful lactobacillus strain Probiotic.

Progurt Team - Friday, November 16, 2012

Could eating yogurt, especially a powerful human LAB strain probiotic such as Progurt, be a replacement for antidepressants and foster emotional harmony? A group of scientists believe so.

Groundbreaking research has shown that a common strain of probiotic can create GABA within the gut while also enhancing brain receptors for this neurotransmitter. Naturally produced GABA is a safe alternative to dangerous psychiatric drugs -- it calms the nervous system, promotes tranquil sleep, minimizes anxiety and alleviates depression. This is good news for over 50 million people around the world who use antidepressants.

In Australia: the willingness of GP’s to write prescriptions for antidepressants has significanty contributed to a doubling of the use of such drugs (reported the Daily Telegraph, Sydney Nov. 16, 2012). The psychiatric medications market has increased by 58 percent since 2000, according to Trends in the Utilisation of Psychotropic Medications in Australia report.  More...

Probiotics ward off C. difficile, Hamilton study shows.

Progurt Team - Thursday, November 15, 2012

They're live microorganisms commonly found in yogurt, and they may just be the key to warding off C. difficile.

A new study released today shows that probiotics could significantly minimize C. difficile, a potentially deadly infection that has plagued three Hamilton hospitals this year.

The study was born at McMaster University, where lead author Bradley Johnston did the research. Co-authors Mark Loeb and Gordon Guyatt are also McMaster researchers.  More...

Probiotic strains for future medicine to protect against infections.

Progurt Team - Wednesday, November 14, 2012

“Therapeutic application of probiotic strains to protect against gastrointestinal infections may be of great importance for future medical use.

Intestinal microbiota may also play a critical role in disease suppression and maintaining gut homeostasis. Some forms of cancers such as gastric cancer and colon cancer are also associated with bacterial pathogenesis. Probiotics have been recommended as GRAS biotherapeutic agents for prevention and cure of human gastrointestinal disease.” says a recent IMedPub study.

Progurt contains multiple strains Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) and Bifido Bacteria of human origin, identical to those found in a healthy human gut.  More...

Progurt versus Antibiotics versus Superbugs.

Progurt Team - Friday, November 02, 2012

Probiotics are organisms that contribute to the overall health of the digestive tract. Progurt has more than 1 trillion CFU (colony forming units). The potency of any probiotic is related to its CFU capability as well as its formulation. Progurt is 1,000 times more potent than a probiotic with just 1 billion CFU. These good bacteria are essential for a healthy gut, crucial to our overall health and wellbeing and help the body fight off harmful bacteria.

Last week ABC News/Four corners reported the rise of the “Superbugs”. The misuse and overuse of antibiotics is creating a breeding ground for these bacteria, apparently capable of genetically modifying other bacteria to make them superbugs, often deadly in their own right.

"...Every time we take an antibiotic we're giving the bug a chance to become a superbug ... the more of us that take antibiotics inappropriately, the greater the chance in the community a superbug will come." (reported Four Corners Geoff Thompson – October 29, 2012).  More...
