Possible Benefits of Progurt on HIV to be Examined.

Progurt is being trialed with HIV/AIDS-infected adults in Capetown, South Africa, in a new study being undertaken to explore the efficacy of Progurt’s multi-strained, high CFU probiotic on adults with HIV compromised immunity.

Mounting evidence already shows that probiotic supplements benefit patients with intestinal disorders, such as irritable bowel syndrome, C. difficile infection, and inflammatory bowel disease.

Because probiotics are themselves bacteria, there has long been interest in their use in people with compromised immunity.

During the course of infection, HIV patients develop inflammation that damages the walls of the intestines, known as the gut mucosa, allowing intestinal microbes to escape and enter the blood stream to cause a life-threatening systemic infection.
