Probiotic News

Progurt for a rejuvinated and healthy skin.

Progurt Team - Tuesday, September 24, 2013

Probiotics, as we know, could hold the secret to a more youthful skin (see Probiotic News December 12, 2012). But some of Progurt’s customers are telling us they are applying this, literally; using Progurt as part of their skin care regimen and in particular, as a rejuvenating face mask.

Whether you consume Progurt to aid your digestion and help make glowing skin or apply it to your face directly, you are sure to benefit from the 1 trillion CFU of “good “ Lactic Acid Bacteria.

A study published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology says “good” bacteria keeps “bad” pimple-triggering bacteria at bay. Researchers from UCLA lifted P. acnes bacteria from the pores of 49 acne-prone and 52 clear-complexioned volunteers. What they found were more than 1,000 strains of the bacteria, from which they were able to identify genes unique to each strain.  More...

New strains of superbugs plague Royal Perth Hospital.

Progurt Team - Tuesday, September 17, 2013

Another new strain of a deadly antibiotic-resistant superbug is causing panic among staff at Royal Perth Hospital, it was reported over the weekend (WA Today, September 14, 2013).

The International Probiotics Institute has been reporting how potent probiotics such as Progurt may inhibit C Diff (Clostridium difficille) and bring CDAD (Clostridium difficile-associated disease) under control.

A clinical study from 5 years ago (Lactobaccillus and bifidobacteria combinations, a strategy to reduce C. difficille incidence and mortality, Graul,T., Clinical Study, 2008) showed that multi-strained probiotics selected for their purity and potency reduced the incidence of CDAD by 66%.  More...

Progurt post antibiotic treatment and for use with new superbugs and C Difficile.

Progurt Team - Friday, September 13, 2013

Overuse of antibiotics – killing both the good and bad bacteria in the human gut can lead to new superbugs, including Clostridium Difficile; C Diff for short, to grow out of control, since C Diff is resistant to most antibiotics and is estimated to kill at least 14,000 Americans per year.

According to new Australian reports; antibiotic-resistant superbugs are now also being spread through food and drinking water.

Additionally, new strains of C Diff have emerged, which produce more severe colon infections, often treated with special antibiotics such as Vancomycin in patients with severe disease. It is estimated that if you have one recurrence you have a more than 50 percent likelihood of further recurrences leading to more sickness and disease.  More...

How Stress Causes Disease

Progurt Team - Monday, September 02, 2013

In days gone by, the main stressors we had to contend with was someone trying to ‘knock’ you on the head for some reason, or something trying to make a meal of you!

The body’s response was to release adrenal stress hormones like cortisol, which prepared your body to fight or run from your attacker (often termed the ‘fight or flight’ response). Your heart rate, breathing rate and your blood flow all increased and parts of your immune system became temporarily suppressed, which reduced your inflammatory response to pathogens and other foreign invaders due to trauma or wounds sustained.

If you managed to evade your attacker, the ‘rush’ of adrenalin coursing through your body normalised and you went back to your hunter gather lifestyle of pure sunshine, clean air, mineral water, organic food and exercise. Happy days!  More...
