Diabetes (Type I and 2) refers to a group of chronic conditions,  which affects an individuals ability to produce the hormone, insulin, in the body in sufficient amounts.  Insulin is made in the beta cells of the pancreas and is essential for the conversion of glucose from food into energy.  Blood glucose levels or glycaemia are higher in individuals with diabetes.

Symptoms of Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes include:

Type 1 Diabetes occurs in about 10-15% of all cases of diabetes. It usually occurs in people under the age of 30, but can happen at any age. Type 1 Diabetes occurs when the body’s immune system destroys the cells of the pancreas that produce insulin (autoimmune response). This process may take several years. The pancreas no longer makes insulin and so the glucose cannot enter the muscle and other body cells, resulting in a rapid build up of glucose and ketones in the blood stream.  The kidneys attempt to wash this excess glucose out of the body so there is an increase in urine produced, and the person becomes very thirsty.

Recommended Diet

Ensure your diet consists of fresh vegetables, green leafy salads and some fruit, to enhance your process of health improvement.
Ensure you are drinking 1 litre/1 quart of filtered water each day.
Eat fresh wholesome foods, fresh or frozen fruit, vegetables, fresh ocean fish, rice, and green leafy salads with vinegar and olive oil.

Avoid processed foods. Avoid refined sugars and sweet snacks. Avoid alcohol,  tobacco, caffeine and white breads.

Recommended Lifestyle

Try to participate in as much extra physical activity as possible.
